After an Abortion

Abortion became legal in this country in 1973.  This has given researchers enough time and data to discover a pattern of symptoms among post-abortive women that is called Post Abortion Syndrome, a type of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.  Women suffering from Post Abortion Syndrome may experience debilitating depression, grief, guilt, anxiety, low self-esteem, a sense of failure, hopelessness, or emotional deadness.  They may have flashbacks, nightmares, sleep disorders, sexual dysfunction, communication difficulties, relationship problems, repeated abortions, drug or alcohol abuse, or suicidal tendencies.  Problems may not appear until months or years after the abortion, when something, often a major life event, will unexpectedly trigger them.  These symptoms become worse with each additional abortion.

Many times women suffer secretly with this condition for years, unable or afraid to share the awful pain with others.  We at Open Arms care deeply about the woman suffering after an abortion.  Several of the women who work at the center have come out of this same situation and really understand what it can be like.  We want an opportunity to offer compassion and hope to others still struggling with this syndrome.  We have a program at the center for post-abortive women that is designed to help them find release and forgiveness, enabling them to leave this behind and reach out to the future once again.  If you or someone you know is suffering after an abortion, we invite you to call us or come in.  We would like to hear from you.
